Phil’s Fitness Diary 18th January 2019

It has been a while since I have done this blog so here is an update.

I have still got and will have osteoarthritis in my left foot and have found it very difficult to do any training and even walking has been painful. I have had regular treatments form Gary and Sharon at the shop and this has helped considerably.

I have tried altering my diet and even gave up drinking for a few months to try and help the situation. I am taking Cherry Active every day and my foot does seem to be getting better very slowly.

Training now consists of gym and swimming. The gym is mostly static bike and concept 2  rowing and the last few weeks I have started to do a small amount of training on a cross trainer. My foot seems to be coping with this and that has lifted my mood slightly.

Last week I accidentally did my first Park run. Mrs T wanted to do one so I went with her to Rickmansworth with the intention of watching and supporting her. I thought I would walk a lap and the go to the café for a drink so I started at the back and set off when the race started. Old habits die hard so I started my watch as well. I must point out I was wearing walking boots, jeans, polo shirt, fleece and coat with wallet in the pocket for the café.

I completed the first lap and I wasn’t last so I decided to go around again.

The competitive side of me started coming out and I picked up the pace and overlook a few people but I did resist the urge to try and run. Getting near the end Mrs T found me and I told her I had gone around again and was going to finish. Because I had my wallet in my pocket I had a barcode on me so I duly did in a time of 42 minutes and wasn’t last 😊

I got the email later in the day and had my official result.

I am still attempting to get fit enough do another marathon and I have started to do technical swimming lessons with Jetstream Tri club so what swimming I do will at least be better and hopefully easier for me as I dislike swimming.

Ever onwards and upwards to the next instalment.
