Phil’s Fitness Diary April 2020.

Lockdown edition. Be safe out there.

Week 3 Lockdown.

Hello Blog Fans (Probably Fan )

It’s been a while since I posted here. A lot has changed since the last post. I am older, not wiser and still falling apart. My Arthritic foot has settled down or I’m getting used to its discomfort but the good thing is its not getting worse. I have been trying to train on and off all this time and it’s like one step forward one step back. I just seem to start making small progress and then boom something happens. About four weeks ago I even needed a cortisone injection in my shoulder which has been playing up since last year. Sharon Dooley and Gary Telfer have been really helpful in the rehab stages and both have been called rude words at times but it is appreciated. Young Jim has been a rock as always putting up with my mood swings and generally putting up with me.

I have been frequenting the gym and doing quite a bit of Concept 2 Rowing until my shoulder gave up so I wasn’t able to “compete” in the Hillingdon AC competition they held in the club house over a few weeks.  Gym training has mainly consisted of static cycling and walk/run on the treadmill and fortunately I had almost got up to 5k in total before the gyms closed down so I have a small amount of fitness. Since the store has closed I have been running outside on the allowed exercise period we are able to take and have been walk/running for about 7K which is the furthest I have been for a few years. The lockdown does have some advantages as I now have time to recover and use the Compex machine to get better again. There is life in the old dog yet!!

My quiz skills are getting better and I’m catching up on movies. Sharon Dooley has started a 20 minute “Running exercise” workout on the Runnersworld Eastcote Facebook page twice a week and also running online Yoga classes if anyone is interested. By the time this finishes our garden will not have looked as good almost ever as all the jobs you don’t have time for you now do? Damn!!

So people, try and keep fit, healthy and come out of this stronger and fitter as you now have the time to do so. Try new skills and like me I have taken the Trumpet playing back up after 40 plus years and yes it does sound like someone is being murdered. The bike also got dragged out, dusted off, pumped up and used. Must be desperate! Try learning new skills that you have been putting off or haven’t had time to do.

I will endeavour to add to this blog a bit more regularly.

Keep safe and see you on the other side

Phil
