Phil’s Fitness Diary week 10. HRM training Bah Humbug

Week 10

Still seem to be in one piece after last weeks training and my bottom injury is not getting any worse so that’s always a bonus in my books ?

4th December 2017

To the gym today feeling quite pleased with myself after Sundays run. Started with 10 minutes on the static bike to get my legs moving which didn’t go too badly. Then I started the bit I’m not sure about, a recovery run keeping my HR between 120 -130 for 20 minutes. Well, what a waste of space. All I could do was a fast walk and then my HR would go to high and I had to walk. After 20 Minutes I had the Royal Hump and didn’t even need a shower after.

After getting home I sent a few very grumpy messages on the Phone to the shop WhatsApp group asking what’s the point (Gary Telfer is in this group). A few comments ensued but no real outcome was reached. Oh well ever onwards and upwards.

AM:

Back to the Gym for an easy 30 minutes on the bike followed by the strength circuit which comprises of the following 15 Reps no rest between sets consisting of Sit-ups, Pressups, Half squats, Lunges, High Knees and Hip Raises.

PM: Gary Telfer comes past the shop and after some private business comes in and has a word about my training. He explains why I could only walk and then gets me on the treadmill in the shop, takes the Polar HRM and makes me do a 20 Minute session there and then. Good job we weren’t Busy then ?. This did make more sense once shown how to execute the session but in my books, the jury is still out. I will keep doing the sessions because what is the point of asking for help and then ignoring the advice. But if it doesn’t work……….

7th December 2017

Running session at the gym on the treadmill today. 6 times 5 minutes with 1 minute walking between sets. I quite like the feeling of training at a slightly faster pace and maybe a bit old school but working up a sweat while exercising. Makes me feel like I have done something.

9th December 2017

Running 10 Miles today as I’m not working ?. Trying to find slightly different routes but without too many hilly sections. Decided to go through the woods to the lido and then twice around the lido trying to keep the heart rate down between 130 -140. This is really hard when you first start and trying to control the breathing and get the HR down is quite hard, and it is  also flipping cold walking ?.managed to get a bit “lost” as I went down some footpaths I haven’t been down before and found Pynchester moat which I have never heard of !!. Eventually came out on Swakelys road and ran the Old Hillingdon 5 mile route home. Even managed to stop at Eastcote Hockey Club and watch 10 minutes of the ladies 2nd team play.

Got home and felt quite good.  Had something to eat and a very Large Mug of tea then had a Nice hot bath with Epson salts to help get these old legs working again. I felt quite confident on this run as I didn’t worry when I wasn’t 100% sure where I was and I would have been able to run a bit further If needed so that is always a good sign in my books.

10th December 2017

Running 10 Miles yesterday was a very good shout by me as there is no way I would attempt to do this in the snow. Eventually went to the Gym and did a warm-up cycle and then a 20 minute  HR 120-130 recovery run. I did actually need a shower after this one.? In my opinion, I did quite well with keeping to the limits but apparently, I can do better. We shall see.

Let’s see what fun and games next week brings, shall we?
