Phil’s Fitness Diary Week 13 Potter Street or Bust

Week 13

Christmas Day run didn’t happen with the Talbot Household. Four faults for a refusal as they say in equine circles. Not a bad week though and I still need to sort out a target race.

26th December 2017

Had a steady training run outside today and managed to avoid the inclement weather. I also managed to keep my HR between 120 -140 so was also quite pleased. I think this was also helped by Ruislip Lido being busier than the M25 😊 so only went around it once before heading off on the road.

28th  December 2017

Walking on the treadmill for 0.81Km just because my Strava app told me I was just under 100km for December. When will I grow up 😊? Jim Buckland didn’t help either and was encouraging me but I did get over the line.

29th December 2017

Steady 4Km run on the treadmill keeping the HR under 140 again. Must be getting the hang of this HR lark. It is interesting using the Tomtom wrist-based HR and the Polar Chest strap version. They both differ at points but on the whole are very similar to the readings they give during the exercise session.

31st December 2017

After a bit too much Complex Carbo Hydrate loading the night before (Budweiser) myself and an old training friend decided to do “The Potter street 10 mile”. This is a route that goes up Potter street Hill, Batchworth Hill and Ducks Hill to name but a few. We estimated that it was approximately 20 plus years ago we did this last time. I got to his house at 11 am and said “are you sure?” and the reply was “Tart get on with it” so we did. Starting up Fore Street isn’t fun at the best of times so off we went. It was quite a challenge and we both had our moments on the run with our own private little victories going on but we really enjoyed it even although we were both shambling wrecks at the end and we didn’t need head torches !!. Back home for a B.F.C.O.T (big fat cup of tea) and the world was ok again. Compex on the legs after a hot bath,  and out to Hillingdon AC for a 1920 New Years Eve Party and a bit too much Complex Carbo Hydrate loading again.  I did manage to win the Fancy Dress competition so finished the year with a win.😊

Happy New year everyone and let’s hope we all stay healthy and achieve some of our goals this year.

  1. Good stuff Phil, as always a fun read. Just remember as they say “if it’s not on Strava it didn’t happen!” Excellent 2018 training defo on the cards!
