Phil’s Fitness Diary week 14

Week 14

After New years eve partying Monday was just a recovery walk to get some fresh air. Thanks to Sharon Dooley and Gary Telfer I managed to keep training this week as I tweaked my left Hamstring on the Potter street run. It didn’t show up straight away but when I got Gary to look at it I wasn’t just winging. Apparently, I am “hamstring Centric” and I don’t run tall so I load different parts of my body. What do I know after running for 30 years Plus 🙂

1st  January 2018

Went on a recovery walk around Ruislip to clear the head after celebrating my momentous win in the Fancy dress. 🙁

4th  January 2018

Went to the gym and did a 15 minutes warm-up cycle with the wattage being greater than 100 and then a 30-minute treadmill run keeping the Heart rate between  120-140. Also had Gary Telfer have a look at my leg which turns out to be a tweaked Hamstring which is down to my poor running style. Cant flipping win 🙁

5th   January 2018

30-minute swim – my favorite session (not) but it did help my leg and I think it is doing me good but I’m not admitting this to the coach or I might get more of it.

6th January 2018

Long run day today as I’m not working. I decided to do an old canal run I used to do when I lived on the Glovers Grove estate. This would be a couple of miles longer from home now.Running along Breakspear road to Harefield was fun. What have they done to the pavement? Clearly not trying to encourage people to exercise. The pavement was never very good 20 years ago and I think the council have done absolutely nothing since. Got onto the Canal at the Coy Carp Pub and it was surprisingly damp and muddy. Came off just after Black Jacks Mill and went up to New Years Green Lane past the dump. The surface of the road may have got better but its just as wet as I remember. Came home via Ruislip and finished relatively ok but my right Achilles was hurting slightly. Opposite side to the Hamstring so is it just a coincidence or more bad technique or just this old body falling apart? BFCOT when I got home and the world was all alright again. 11 miles completed (Tick)

7th January 2018

Recovery session in the gym today. My version of a gym triathlon

15 minutes static cycle watts > 100

10 minutes concept 2 Rowing

20 minutes Treadmill run with Heart Rate < 130

Pleased with the training this week and now need to get back into the habit of training in a routine. Also, hope my Achilles is nothing serious
